The following types of drill bits can be used for drilling carbon fiber.
Milling Drill Bits:
It provides an immaculate finish like specifically designed for carbon fiber materials. these bits also manage to stay sharp. It is suitable for a project that requires a lot of drilling. The only disadvantage is the price is quite expensive.
Diamond-Coated Drill Bits:
Diamond-coated drill bits are specially used in carbon glass composites and carbon fiber. These bits are very easy to brittle but it not easy to let carbon fiber delamination.
They are more expensive than other drill bits, so you can use them for projects with a bigger budget and require a lot of drilling.
Diamond Grit Hole-saw Drill Bits:
It is similar to diamond-coated drill bits in performance but are used for bigger diameter hole. For using these, you will also need another drill bit for drilling a pilot hole. They are also more expensive but might be the only option you have if you need to drill big holes.
High-Speed Steel( HSS) Bits:
The resulting holes may not be very precise, and the bit will dull after a few holes. But this is the cheapest option for drilling carbon fiber. If you don't have enough budget, you can use it to drill a few holes.
Step Drill Bits:
It is not easy to damage carbon fiber when drilling into carbon fiber. Also, you can drill holes of different sizes with a single drill bit. However, you need to replace the bit if you need to drill a lot of holes. This is because this bit could not stay sharp very long.
