What is the difference between carbon fiber twill and plain weave?

There are many kinds of carbon fiber weaves, among which plain weave and twill weave are widely used in carbon fiber surface lines because of its universal and simple braided structure. Somebody like twill weave is because twill weave has a three-dimensional sense. Some people prefer plain weave because of its good compaction strength. So, what's the difference between twill and plain?

The main difference between twill and plain weave is the braided direction. The plain pattern is woven from the top and bottom of the longitude and weft lines, and the lines are straight lines. Due to the large number of intertwined nodes of warp and weft, the permeability of resin to plain weave is not as good as that of twill. In addition, the plain braided carbon fiber products have slightly lower bending strength, slightly higher tensile strength, lower balance, and no three-dimensional feeling of twill, which is more obvious with the higher the number of layers of the fabric. Therefore, we will find that when choosing low-thickness carbon fiber products, we will habitually recommend plain surface products.

Twill weave is characterized by a diagonal line composed of warp weave points or weft weave points, and its nodes are less than plain weave, so the permeability of resin is better than plain weave. In general, the tensile strength of plain weave of carbon fiber board is higher than that of twill, the bending strength rate of twill is higher, and the appearance is more three-dimensional.

What's the difference between plain weaving and twill weaving?

Plain weaving is a structure in which the warp and weft lines are woven up and down, one by one, so there are many interweaving points between the warp and weft. The twill is a braided structure with two intervals, and there are few interweaving points of longitude and weft lines. The more interweaving points, the higher the bending strength, the stronger the tensile strength, and the stronger the sense of balance. On the contrary, the shear strength is high and the permeability is high.


How to choose?

Both plain and twill have their own advantages. If you value appearance more, twill may be a better choice. If you value performance more, maybe the plain weave is better. In short, customers can choose the grain of carbon fiber products according to their own requirements.
